How to use it

  1. Choose what you want to calculate: pace, time or distance.
  2. Fill in the other two boxes. Times can be h:mm:ss (4:00:00) or mm:ss (50:00).
  3. Switch between km and miles at any time. Results always show both.

Worked example

You want to run a 10K in 50:00. 50 minutes ÷ 10 km = 5:00 per km. In miles: 10 km is 6.21 miles, so the pace is 8:03 per mile. The speed is 12.00 km/h (7.46 mph).

Questions and answers

How do I calculate my running pace?

Divide your time by the distance. A 10 km run in 50:00 is 50 minutes ÷ 10 = 5:00 per km, which is 8:03 per mile.

What pace is a 4-hour marathon?

5:41 per km or 9:09 per mile, held for 42.195 km (26.2 miles).

What pace do I need for a sub-2 half marathon?

Faster than 5:41 per km or 9:09 per mile for 21.0975 km.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?

Multiply the pace per km by 1.609344, the number of kilometres in a mile. To go from per mile to per km, divide by 1.609344.

Why is my watch pace different from the calculator?

GPS watches often measure a race as slightly longer than the official distance, because you do not run the exact shortest line. The calculator uses the distance you enter.
